Bio
Rich Stephens is a person who stutters and since the age of four, has lived with the physical, social, and emotional impact of stuttering.
In 2019 Rich fulfilled his dream of supporting young people who stutter and their families with establishing SAY: Australia.
Rich was born and raised in Manchester, UK. He graduated from the University of Salford, UK, in 2009 as a Psychiatric Nurse. In his nursing career, Rich worked with children and adults with a range of mental health difficulties in the UK, Ireland, and in New Zealand where his role was Te Whare Marie was a Maori Specialist Community Psychiatric Nurse. In 2017 Rich graduated from the University of Manchester, UK, with a Bachelor of Speech and Language Therapy with First Class honours. In 2018 he graduated from the University of Manchester, UK, with a Master of Science in Neuroimaging for Clinical and Cognitive Neuroscience.
In 2015 Rich volunteered for the first time at Camp SAY as a bunk counsellor and has been involved with SAY ever since. In 2016 Rich reprised his role as a bunk counsellor, and then in 2017 become part of the Camp SAY Leadership team. In 2018, as well as reprising his Leadership role at Camp SAY, Rich also helped to plan and run the first Camp SAY West Coast in Los Angeles.
In 2017 Rich met his partner, and Vice-President of SAY: Australia, Elaina Kefalianos at the Oxford Disfluency conference, UK, and in 2018 he moved to Melbourne to continue their wonderful lives together.
Rich, inspired by the wider SAY community, his beautiful partner Elaina and baby boy Harrison, is the driving force behind SAY: Australia and inspires all of the important work that SAY: Australia does.
