❓ FAQ’S

What is it? (i.e. a support group or practice group)

This is a group for people who stutter to learn, explore and discover what works for them.
It is NOT a support group. It is NOT a practice group.
It is an integrated experience with people who get it - including peers and mentors, people who stutter and professionals. In principle, we start with you. As a person.
We meet you where you’re at, and welcome you to take your own steps towards your hopes and desired goals.
We present you with an array of information, physical / emotional / social strategies, exercises and experiences, so you can identify what matters to you and what works best to help you achieve what you want.

Ages

We have separate groups for teens (13-17) and adults (18+).
The content and experiences are adapted to be relevant to the maturity, interests and daily life of the group. Adults can expect professional and “adult” examples, analogies and experiences relevant to adult life. And teens can expect to be treated as the distinct people they are - “teens” have unique interests and needs, and don’t want to be treated like younger “kids” but also not yet like independent “adults.” As such, some themes are distinct, like “school-life” for teens versus “work-life” for adults and much-shared content like “social life” and “family life.” Each presented with nuance for the complexion of the group.

Who is the right candidate? And who is NOT…

Who is NOT the right candidate?
(1) An individual who does not really want to do this, but someone else is pushing them into it;
(2) A person looking for quick and easy, cure/fix, “do it for me” solution.
(3) A person looking to fix their fluency-only, and nothing else.
(4) People who are intolerant of others or unable to participate in a group in a way that allows others to feel safe.

Who is the right candidate?
Any person looking for a new possibility, to find a better way forward in life, as a human being (who stutters.).
One who is open to considering new information, ideas, ways of thinking, experimenting with an array of “tools” - including but not limited to speech / emotional / social strategies, with ultimate hopes to evolve as human beings in life - including speech, relating to people, connecting with relationships and the world around.
No matter who you are, where you come from, how you look or how you talk - this is a welcoming safe space.
No matter how much therapy you have had, or have not, we welcome you as you are to join us in exploring in pursuit of some new personal discovery.
We are inclusive and expect all people in the group to offer respect to one another.
Come with readiness to be curious, be open to considering new ways of thinking and experimenting with new experiences to explore and discover what might work for you in the future - differently than before.

What can I expect?

While we cannot and will not, make any blanket guarantee of results - we can assure you that you can expect eye-opening insights, new relationships with people who really get it, and transformative experiences to stretch your comfort zone, flex your courage and confidence and find new ways to relate to stuttering.
You will see practical ways to enjoy more freedom of speech and progress towards your life goals.
At the end of this experience, you might feel you have all you need to go on independently.
Or you might decide you want to tap into some individual work with a local therapist of your choice.
Or you might decide to plug into the world of self-help support groups.
Or you might decide to become a mentor, advocate, author, storyteller…. or some/all the above.
The future is an open possibility.

We see our role as a launchpad for you to spring forward to the future possibilities that await you.
