Arthur recalls being “just an ordinary kid” with a speech impediment, yet his grandmother made him feel anything but ordinary. She would drive him to speech therapy three times a week, from Queens to Long Island Jewish Hospital and back, using those long car rides to uplift and inspire him.

“She’s telling me how extraordinary I am, how I can do anything, and that I’m going to be something great,” Arthur shares, reflecting on their conversations.

In his words, he would often reply, “You know, Grandma, that’s so great, but I don’t get it. I’m just very ordinary, and I have a speech impediment—how do I get there?”

Her answer was simple yet profound: “You’ll see.”

Arthur humbly reflects, “I don’t know if she ever saw my successes. But she gets the credit.”
