Change: When to push to and when to go with the flow

"Change" should be natural.

It should be effortless.

We don't need to force it.

We don't need to overcomplicate it.


Chicks crack out of their shells without training.

Crawling caterpillars become beautifully winged butterflies without treatment.

With many young kids, time is on your side. Maturation (naturally) helps a lot.

On the other hand, other kinds of "change" require us to take action.

A leak doesn't fix itself. Unhealthy habits don't self-correct. Practice doesn’t make perfect. But practice makes permanent.


The dilemma isn’t a contradiction. The dilemma deserves some consideration and ultimately, some decision making, case-by-case.

  • When should we do something?

    • Facilitate the process, with some proactive approach.

  • When should we do less?

    • Let it happen on its own, as we “watch and see” what happens.

  • And of course, no matter what we do, how can we support the process?

    • Make sure we ”get out of the way” of positive developments.

    • And make sure we don’t introduce unhealthy ideas, emotions, habits.
